Good news for PlayStation 4 users in Europe who either purchased or were looking to purchase the PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto trilogy for the current generation console. Sony Computer Entertainment has begun to patch the European PlayStation 4 versions of the GTA Trilogy to support a 60Hz refresh rate, the games were previously locked to 50Hz, resulting in stuttering frame-rates.
Released on February 9th this year as part of Sony’s Emulation, both GTA 3 and GTA Vice City have been updated to include support for the higher refresh rate, both titles frame rate has been updated from 25fps to 30fps with GTA San Andreas yet to receive an update.
The new update means that both GTA 3 and GTA Vice City now match the North American versions, running faster than the original European PlayStation 2 releases.
Digital Foundry uncovered the issue in an in-depth analysis earlier this year stating that “The PAL territories were blighted with poorly adapted code that often featured letterboxing, slowdown or other artefacts in the transition from 60Hz to 50Hz.”
GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas are available now on PS4 through the PlayStation Store for £11.99 each, or in a bundle for £28.99.
