Dead Rising 4‘s story campaign mode will not feature cooperative play, according to developer Capcom Vancouver.
Speaking via a Twitch stream, Capcom Vancouver’s brand manager confirmed that unlike Dead Rising‘s predecessor’s, Dead Rising 4‘s campaign will not support cooperative play.
“We have an online four-player mode. So in the story mode; it’s a single-player mode, you’re gonna play just as Frank. We wanted to make sure we really focus on telling Frank’s story. We really think he’s a really interesting character and it’s really exciting to bring him back.”
The decision to remove cooperative play from Dead Rising 4‘s story campaign appears to be a strange one but that doesn’t mean Dead Rising 4 won’t have any online play.
“The four-player is our multiplayer mode. It’s a little bit inspired by the original Infinity mode for old-school fans. It’s four-player co-op and it takes place in the Mall. You play as four survivors who are also featured in the story as well. You get a little backstory on them. You go in the Mall and take part in crazy missions trying to survive.
The structure is; before you start the game together you start in a safehouse, you get to loadup, buy some weapons, get yourself ready to go. Then we unlock the doors. It’s killing, mayhem, madness. Lots of interesting missions that take advantage of our systems and really show off the cool stuff you can do in our game. And then you have to get to the safehouse to survive at the end of the day.”
Dead Rising 4 launches December 6th as a timed exclusive for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, with a PS4 version coming at a later date.
