Battlefield 1 Open Beta Was The Biggest In EA History, Free Map “Giant’s Shadow” Detailed

Despite issues with its servers, the recent multiplayer open beta for upcoming shooter Battlefield 1 was the most successful in Electronic Art’s history.

In total, 13.2 million players participated throughout the course of the beta across Xbox One, PS4 and PC, making it the biggest beta in the companies history. A deeper look at the recently released infographic shows that players were killed 28 million times by melee attack during the beta while 62 million users were killed by players riding a horse.

Battlefield 1 passes Electronic Arts previous biggest beta – Star Wars Battlefront, which pulled in over 9 million players prior to its release in November of 2015.

Furthermore, EA and Dice today revealed details on a new map for Battlefield 1 titled “Giant’s Shadow”, which will be available for free in December via an update.

Prepare to take part in the Battle of the Selle in the cold autumn of 1918. Here, the fighting moves out of the trenches and into open country where a massive crashed airship casts its shadow onto the battlefield. The British forces have broken through the Hindenburg line and are now in pursuit towards an important railway center. Fierce infantry and tank engagements ensue on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateu-Wassigny railway where an armoured train can still turn the tide. Giant’s Shadow will be coming to Battlefield 1 as part of a free update in December.

Battlefield 1 is available October 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC via Origins.
