MEET POINTYSPRED

Every Sunday we interview an Xbox gamer to find out what makes them tick in the diverse world of gaming. This week we are chatting with Ed aka PointySpred, lets start with a little bit about yourself?

Ed: I’m a stay at home dad for 3 awesome kids. 2 girls and a boy. My wonderful wife works full time in the ER at our local hospital. And we also have an Australian Sheppard and a leopard gecko! I work part time at a local game store, but mostly I’m home with the kids. 2 year old girl, 3 year old boy and my oldest daughter is about to be 9.

Cherry: A Gecko that’s awesome! I have 2 little ones myself. Do you have any passions besides gaming?

Ed: Family of course but we love going hiking in the mountains. Living in Colorado you would be crazy not to enjoy the mountains. We used to snowboard a lot but with little one it’s tough to get out like that.

Cherry: Yeah I know the feeling all too well, so how did you decide on your gamertag?

Ed: One of my buddies used to call me spread for whatever reason, so when we were making profiles on the Xbox 360, I was spread. Anyways we had no internet just offline fun, you remember those days. Well I eventually got my own 360 and wanted to keep all my achievements and stuff so I tried and  of course it was taken, but pointyspred was available…

Cherry: That’s quite a nice collection, what is your first gaming memory?

Ed: Playing Mario bros with my mom, I was like 4 or 5. We used to rent a NES from the Blockbuster  down the street until my dad finally got us one for Christmas. So happy, played that and Galaga all day that Christmas.

Cherry: What consoles do you currently own?

Ed: Wow, umm a few let’s see. Super Nintendo, Game Cube, PS2, PS3, Dreamcast, 360 and X1. Plus several handhelds.

Ed: Playing Mario bros with my mom, I was like 4 or 5. We used to rent a NES from the Blockbuster  down the street until my dad finally got us one for Christmas. So happy, played that and Galaga all day that Christmas.

Cherry: I’m a massive fan of the NES and Mario Bros, great console, great games!. What was the last game you stayed up all night to play?

Ed: Actually just tried last week with Type 0, but I’m old and fell asleep around 2. But I have had several all nighters with Destiny…. ugh Destiny…. so I had a Destiny problem for about 4 months, met some cool people though but that is one addicting game.

Cherry: Being a massive Dead Space fan myself thats pretty cool, so who is your favourite video game character?

Ed: That would have to be Link, ever since I played link to the past the whole world of hyrule has fascinated me.

Cherry: What is your favourite genre and your favourite game from that genre?

Ed: JRPG, Final Fantasy VII. Typical but I played that freshman year of high school and was the first time I got emotional due to the in game events. Choked up and definitely a tear came to my eye. When she was gently let go into the water…

Cherry: Destiny is definitely a fun game to play with friends. What is your favourite series/franchise?

Ed: Final Fantasy followed closely by Legend of Zelda. I’m currently working on half sleeve tattoo of final fantasy and my youngest daughters middle name is Zelda…..And my son is named Isaac after dead space.

Cherry: Final Fantasy games have always had amazing stories, who is your favourite game villain/enemy?

Ed: TONBERRY so dreadfully delightful!

Cherry: I’m noticing quite the Final Fantasy theme here lol, why do you play video games?

pointyspred

Ed: It keeps me out of trouble, plus I love being taken to another world where I can not worry about life’s problems for a while. We all need something like that.

Cherry: I totally agree with you on that, so do you like to challenge yourself or do you prefer a more story-driven experience?

Ed: I definitely prefer a challenge. But you can’t beat a good story.

Cherry: I’m pretty much the same, so are there any games exclusive to another console that you want to play?

Ed: I’m waiting for the new Zelda to get a Wii u, but smash will definitely be a bonus.

Cherry: Do you prefer to get lost in a game and play single player or a more co-op/multiplayer experience?

Ed: Multiplayer PvP is my favorite, right now anyways. I used to hate MP and MP achievements but after realizing most of the time it’s faster to just play legit rather than trying to boost. And it’s definitely way more fun, I found out I’m not too bad either. Just practice and learning maps.

Cherry: I feel that taking the time to learn the layout of a MP map can help you gain the upper hand over your opponent, what old games do you wish would get a remake for current gen consoles?

Ed: FF7

Cherry: What are you currently playing and what are your thoughts on it?

Ed: Holy crap Battlefield Hardline is crazy fun and a great change of pace, exactly what the franchise needed.

Cherry: We have just started playing Hardline and so far it doesn’t look too bad. Any games you thought were going to be great but turned out to be a huge disappointment?

Ed: Sunset Overdrive, I was really excited for it, but when it finally came out, I was kinda meh. I dunno maybe Destiny had me distracted.

pointyspred

Cherry: We’re big fans of Sunset Overdrive lol, are there any underrated games you would recommend?

Ed: I think I’m the only one who liked Walking Dead Survival Instinct.

Cherry: I can’t say I have ever played it but love the show, what games do you wish would release a sequel?

Ed: Alan Wake needs one for sure.

Cherry: I couldn’t agree more, Alan Wake is deserved of a non arcade title sequel, If you were in a Zombie Apocalypse, which three game characters would you want protecting you and why?

pointyspred

Ed:  I would only need MegaMan, because well he is MegaMan. I guess Dr.Light would be helpful too.

Cherry:. Have you ever incited an opponent into pure rage after killing them and received any abuse online?

Ed: Let’s just say I like collecting dog tags in battlefield….  I love sending snipers a msg to look behind them wait a bit then take their tags, so I guess sometimes I go looking for trouble.
Cherry: I too enjoying trolling snipers not playing the objective lol thanks for taking the time to chat with us for this weeks gamerview.
