Until Dawn was possibly one of the biggest surprises of 2015 after its release as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, Supermassive Games Managing Director, Pete Samuels stated that the studio were not currently developing a sequel to the popular survival horror game and were instead focusing on other titles including PlayStation VR title, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.
Responding to a question regarding the possible development of Until Dawn 2 Samuels replied “There’s a lot of speculation about what we’re doing and what we’re working on right now, we’re not working on Until Dawn 2 at the moment. We’re working on other things.”
While Samuels wouldn’t give any clues as to the likelihood of an Until Dawn 2 or when the studio might possibly begin work on an anticipated sequel he did speak about the Until Dawn’s overwhelming success since its launch in 2015, “I mean, we knew we’d made something really good. We all like it here, we’re very proud of it, but yeah, the way that the fans approached it and the feedback that we got there, and some of the critical acclaim that we got, and the sales… yeah, it couldn’t have put us in a better place really.”
Until Dawn’s successful launch even took Sony Computer Entertainment and Shuhei Yoshida by surprise, going on to win many nominations throughout 2015 and 2016, winning best Horror at the Global Game Awards in 2015.
