Xbox’s Summer Spotlight 2016

This year it appears Xbox have taken a rather familiar approach to their Summer Spotlight with it being held once more to simply highlight the next 25 games coming to the Xbox Store over the next six weeks. Larry Hyrb, Director of Programming at Xbox Live going by the gamertag Major Nelson had this to say:

“We are excited to announce that Summer Spotlight is back and bringing you some of the summer’s most exciting games. Over the next six weeks, the Xbox Store will be releasing over 25 new digital games to Xbox One. We have some of the most anticipated titles of the summer, including We Happy Few and INSIDE. This is also a great time to explore exciting new indie titles such as The Solus Project and Kingdom New Lands. Summer Spotlight has a wide variety of titles and different genres for fans to explore.”

So whilst this does not appear to mean we will be seeing the return of the infamous “Summer of Arcade” it is certainly nice to see Microsoft shining this “Spotlight” on Indie Games that truly deserve it such as the aforementioned; Hyper Light Drifter and The Solus Project.

Today alone we have seen the release of three well received games:

  • Hyper Light Drifter
  • Dungeon Punks
  • We Happy Few (Game Preview)

“The Summer Spotlight” will run from July 26 – September 5th
