PlayStation 3.50 System Software Update Out Tomorrow; New Social Features & Remote Play for PC

Vice President of PlayStation Brand Marketing, for Sony Computer Entertainment, John Koller has announced via PlayStation Blog that PlayStations 3.50 System Software Update will roll out tomorrow (6 April 2016). The new update will improve the social aspect of PlayStation as well as introduce Remote Play to both Windows PC and Mac.

The 3.50 System Software Update will bring new social features including the ability to appear offline, which can be accessed via the new Online Status, allowing players the chance to appear offline while playing games or watching a movie. Another new social feature offers players the chance to highlight when select friends appear online with the Friend Online Notification option which can be located via users Friends List. Lastly, players will be able to schedule gameplay sessions with friends via the Create Event option which allows users to choose the day, time, game,before sending invitations to friends. When the event starts, users who registered will automatically be added to a party so you can start playing right away.

As well as introducing new social features through the 3.50 System Software Update there will also be changes to Remote Play with Sony expanding the PS4’s Remote Play capabilities to work with Windows PC and Mac.
Remote Play on PC / Mac will be compatible with the following system software:

  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10 or later
  • OS X 10.10
  • OS X 10.11

Users will be able to select from the following resolution and frame rate options, depending on Internet bandwidth.
Resolution options: 360p, 540p, 720p (Default: 540p)
Frame rate : Standard (30fps), High (60fps) (Default: Standard)

You can use one DualShock 4 as the controller for Remote Play, which needs to be connected to your PC/Mac via a USB cable.

PlayStation 3.50 System Software Update will be available from the 6th of April 2016.
