Original Film and Smilegate, the leading Korean game developer, have today announced a partnership which will develop a film based on the acclaimed CROSSFIRE online FPS game. The movie will be produced by famed film producer Neal H. Moritz of I Am Legend and Furious 7 fame.
Released in 2007, CROSSFIRE recorded global sales of $1.2 billion in 2014, alone, and is a mega hit with 500 million users in over 80 countries around the world. CROSSFIRE regularly outperforms such games as World of Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed in terms of number of players and revenue.
The CROSSFIRE movie will be an internationally focused ensemble action film and will be produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner. Tania Landau and Toby Ascher will serve as executive producers. With the game’s global success, the project has the makings of a franchise. Smilegate sought out Original Film specifically due to their expertise managing and shepherding franchises such as Fast & Furious.
Neal H. Moritz, is one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood today. The founder of Original Film, he has produced over 50 major motion pictures, which have earned a box-office total of more than $8 billion worldwide.
Moritz most recently released Furious 7, the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, which broke international box office records to become the fifth highest grossing movie of all time. Also slated for release in 2015 is an adaptation of the internationally best-selling children’s book series “Goosebumps.” Past film credits include The Fast and the Furious franchise, 21 and 22 Jump Street, Battle: Los Angeles, The Green Hornet, I Am Legend, Vantage Point, S.W.A.T., XxX, Blue Streak, The Skulls, Cruel Intentions, Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Volcano, and Juice.
The movie’s screenwriter, director and distributor will be announced at a later date. While many international games have been turned into Hollywood movies, this will mark the first time a Korean game is licensed to Hollywood.

The film is the first step in Smilegate’s expansion of the global CROSSFIRE brand. Smilegate is currently in development on mobile games and pursuing to expand into other business areas based on the property.
