Editor: This weeks Gamerview is with Lindsay aka Musquito. Let’s start with a bit about yourself.
Lindsay: I am 35 years old and I live in Belgium together with my wife in our apartment. I met my wife over xbox live and we are both passionate about gaming. My favourite console of all time is still the PlayStation 2. I have 3 cats: Muts, Milo and Pluche.
Ed: Aww I love Cats! Do you have any other passions besides gaming?
Lindsay: Gaming is my main passion and takes almost of all my spare time. When I’m not gaming, I like to watch TV series. My favourite ones are Dexter, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black and Revenge.
Ed: Game of Thrones is so good, why did you choose your gamertag?
Lindsay: On my very old Xbox, I didn’t create a gamertag as I didn’t have a credit card back then. In those days you couldn’t pay for Xbox Live with a prepaid card. By the time I got my Xbox 360 a lot of gamertags were taken. I don’t like underscores or numbers in my gamertag. I tried out a lot but all were taken. I was thinking about what gamertag I should use when I saw a Mosquito flying around in my room. Pretty stupid, but I tried that gamertag. I did however spell it wrong “Musquito”, which probably explained why the gamertag was still available. I have a lot in common with a Mosquito: During summertime I am annoying, make a lot of noise, I bite,.Well that last part is not true.
Ed: Ha, that’s a pretty cool story, I’m glad we don’t have mosquitos here 😛 What consoles do you currently own?
Lindsay: Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Sega MegaDrive, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One.
Ed: Wow, that’s a lot of consoles, what is your first gaming memory?
Lindsay: My first gaming memory is playing Tetris on a Gameboy. I loved that game, spent a lot of time playing on my Gameboy.
Ed: Me too! What was the last game you stayed up all night to play?
Lindsay: I am really not a night person, so I only stayed up once to play all night but that was for a completely different reason. It was Christmas Eve and I spent it celebrating with my family like I do every year. When I got home, it was already after midnight, I switched on my Xbox 360 in the hope to find my girlfriend online (well she was not my girlfriend yet at that time). After a while my neighbour came online too and we spent the whole night playing Uno and Project Gotham 4. That is the only time I ever spent the night without going to sleep.
Ed: I’ve heard some creepy things about Uno lol What is your favourite series/franchise?
Lindsay: I love racing games, so my favourite series is Forza Motorsport.
Ed: Who is your favourite video game character?
Lindsay: I don’t really have a favourite game character, but I do have a favourite car brand: Lamborghini.
Ed: Good choice, What was the first achievement you unlocked?
Lindsay: I was a Sony fan before I bought an Xbox 360. I even pre-ordered a PlayStation 3 but when it got delayed I cancelled my pre-order and went to the shop to get an Xbox 360 with Saints Row. I had difficulties adapting to the controller, so I went back to the shop to buy myself a racing game. A racing game is much easier than a sandbox to get used to the controller. My very first achievement I unlocked was “Server Surfer!” in Burnout Revenge.
Ed: I love racing games, I’m just not very good. Watch out for my rogue Drivatar in Forza lol, do achievements matter to you?
Lindsay: With over 14,000 achievements on my gamercard I would be probably lying if I tell you they do not matter. I like achievements and I get very pissed when I have a glitched one.
Ed: Don’t we all! I noticed you’ve played over 1000 games! What is the worst one you’ve played and the one you enjoyed the most?
Lindsay: I really should play only games that I like, but those lovely achievements force us to play crappy games. I have more crappy games on my gamertag than I really want to. It is a waste of time, especially when other games are worth it. Before achievements were introduced I played a lot of RPG’s on my PlayStation 2 because I really enjoyed them. On my Xbox 360 you will hardly find one on my gamertag simply because they are too time consuming to fully complete.
The worst game I played was Superman Returns. I enjoyed Forza Motorsport 4 the most. I rarely continue playing a game when I have all the achievements unlocked, but this one was an exception.
Ed: Yeah it is a waste of time, I can’t stop playing bad ones either. If you were forced to play one genre which would you choose and why?
Lindsay:If I were forced to pick only one genre, it would be racing. I really love the pure racing games.
Ed: Yeah I’m noticing a running theme here 😛 What’s your favourite game soundtrack?
Lindsay: This is a difficult question for me. As my wife and I play in the same living room, TV’s are next to each other, my sound is set to a minimum. I do not really pay attention to the music in a game. In racing games I always turn off the radio anyway. When playing on my Windows Phone on the train, I always mute it entirely because I do not want to disturb the other travellers.
Ed: That’s why me and my partners Xbox’s are in separate rooms. What’s the longest you’ve spent playing a game and what was it?
Lindsay: I believe the longest I spent on playing a game was over 300 hours on Forza Motorsport 4.
Ed: That’s a lot of racing! What are you currently playing and what are your thoughts on it?
Lindsay: I am currently playing Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One and it is a really great racing game. I didn’t like the first Horizon, but this one is so much better. I only hate the Storm Island DLC though. Off-road is not really my cup of tea. I got encouraged to play Deadlight on Xbox 360 and I really forgot how great this game is. I love it. A little bit too much collectibles but other than that it is a great game.
I recently started Project Spark on Xbox One. This game is so relaxing, I completely lose track of time and gets in a totally zen mode. This game will take a lot of time to complete, I am not sure if I ever will complete it as you are dependent of others for the downloads. I am also trying to complete Angry Birds Classics on Windows Phone as someone challenged me to do so, but I really really really hate that game. Angry Birds is definitely not my cup of tea.
I also play Age of Empires Castle Siege on Windows 8. It’s my first Age of Empires game ever and I really like it. When I am waiting for my army to prepare, I play one of the above mentioned games.
Ed: Yeah Angry Birds isn’t my cup of tea either. Any games you thought were going to be great but turned out to be a huge disappointment?
Lindsay:Absolutely. I used to pre-order all Need for Speed games as I really loved them, but I got so disappointed in Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed. The first one was great, so I had high expectations, but was so disappointed in the second one. They really ruined the concept. A second game that comes to mind is Need for Speed The Run. Another one with high expectations, another big disappointment. I really hate when the AI is over-aggressive. That was the last NFS game I bought on release date.
Ed: Any underrated games you would recommend?
Lindsay: The first game that comes to mind is Brothers. I really liked this game, it was something I never played before and I was really impressed by the touching story, even it was not told with words, controlling both brothers with the sticks,…
Ed: Brothers is such a sad game, I loved it. What games do you wish would release a sequel?
Lindsay: I really want another RalliSport Challenge game. I was hoping one would make it to the xbox 360, but unfortunately none came out, so I keep hoping there will someday be a sequel on the Xbox One.
Ed: What has been your experience playing games online?
Lindsay: The very first time I played a match online, I got kicked by the host. I stayed away for years of playing online until I met my girlfriend. I only play online with my wife and/or friends.
For me, online gaming is not necessary, especially when servers closes too fast. Keep a game single player only.
Ed: Single player is great but I do enjoy tormenting others online sometimes lol. What is your funniest game moment?
Lindsay: My funniest gaming moment will be playing cooperative through Damnation with my wife. Really this is a bad game because I saw different things on my screen that she did. Before we lived together I sometimes said “not on my screen”, but she never believed me. As our TV’s are set up to be next to each other, we can see each others screen. In Damnation it was clear that somethings things were different when they were not suppose to.
Ed: That happens in a few games lol, thanks for being this weeks Gamerview! If you would like to be featured on this page please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your gamertag and we’ll get back to you.
